Our hearts go out to anyone who has lost a loved one.

We are still diligently cleaning commonly touched surfaces, and continue to take preventative measures to keep our guests and funeral home employees healthy and safe.

Thankfully the number of COVID cases has lessened and no masks are required, but please feel free to wear one at any time while visiting.

Please stay home if you are sick or test positive with Covid-19. Webcast services may be available, allowing families to pay tribute to their loved one with the opportunity for others to watch remotely from the comfort of home.

We appreciate the trust you place in us, and are committed to being available at any time, to safely care for our families.

If you have questions, don’t hesitate to contact us. Together, we will support one another, showing yet again the strength of our wonderful community.

Sincerely, Suzanne and Neil Fagan

No matter if a death is sudden, or unexpected, the loss of a loved one makes us feel distraught and overwhelmed.  No amount of preparation can fully prepare you for the loss of a loved one.  When you are in a heightened emotional state, even the most basic decisions can seem staggering.  The following is a rough guideline of what we can help you with at the time death.

When death occurs at home

If the person was not under hospice care, the police will have to be notified immediately.  The police will be dispatched to the home and place the call to the coroner/medical examiner.  From there the coroner/medical examiner will take the body and determine whether further action is necessary.  The coroner/medical examiner must release the body before a funeral home can do anything.   If the person was under hospice care, contact the hospice representative if they were not present, and they will notify the funeral director and help family members with what the proper procedures are to follow.

When a death occurs at a hospital/nursing home/hospice facility

The staff of a health care facility such as a hospital or a nursing home will notify you and the necessary authorities immediately after a death has occurred.  If the funeral home name has been provided to the hospital or nursing home, we should be notified by them at the time of death, or you can call us too.  If you are present at the hospital when the funeral director arrives, we will ask a few questions about the deceased wishes and set up a time convenient with you to come into the funeral home to make final arrangements; however, if you are not present at the facility, the funeral director will contact you by telephone to arrange a convenient time to discuss these arrangements.

Informing a Funeral Director

Contact us at the time of death, we are here to help and advise you and will work very hard to relive the stress and logistics in funeral planning.  We are here to help you obtain death certificates, transport the body, and in the event pre-planning was not done, decide on burial or cremation, and arrange the funeral or memorial services.  We  will also help you notify insurance companies of the deceased to assist with those arrangements, if need be. We can be reached at (607)776-2733.

Making Arrangements

First the Funeral Director will gather information required for the death certificate.  This includes:

  • Full Name and Address
  • Marital Status
  • Race/Ethnicity
  • Date and City of Birth
  • Highest Level of Education
  • Father’s Name, Mother’s Name (including maiden name)
  • Name of Spouse (if married or widowed)
  • Occupation and Employer
  • Veteran information

The funeral director will provide the legal documents needed to be signed for the funeral services selected

If no prearrangements have been done, these arrangements will need to be made for the services selected:

  • Scheduling the location, date and time of the visitation and funeral service
  • Selecting burial or cremation
  • Choosing Funeral Products
  • Arranging a cemetery plot
  • Preparing an obituary notice

Our funeral directors will guide you through all these steps, including your wants, needs and desires as a foundation to create a memorable funeral tribute for your loved one. The funeral services can be personalized with  information such as favorite sports team,  favorite type of music, favorite activities or anything else your loved one was best known for.  Recalling fond memories assists with the grieving process and will help you through the loss of your loved one. Call us at anytime to help you through (607)776-2733.
