Obituary of William Russell Silbaugh

William R. “Russ” Silbaugh, 73, of Bath, NY passed away on March 29, 2013 at the Steuben County Health Care Facility. Born in Uniontown, PA the son of the late William Kenneth Silbaugh and Ruth Cruse Silbaugh, he was known as Russ to family and friends. Following his graduation from North Union High School in 1957, he came to Steuben County, NY, to drill gas wells. He liked the area so much that he returned here after completing his military service and stayed for the rest of his life. He was employed by the Taylor Wine Company for nearly 30 years. Russ loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter who was proud of getting at least one deer during each deer season for 52 years in a row. He enjoyed participating in many fishing tournaments with his buddy, Bill Ormsby. Russ, and his wife, Ruth, enjoyed dancing with the Champagne Whirlaways Square Dance Club for many years. Russ is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth A. Wells, Bath, NY, daughter, Faith Thain, Grovetown, GA, brother Philip (Donna) Silbaugh, Morgantown, PA, sister, Linda (Louis) Lerda, Chambersberg, PA, granddaughter, Tara (Wiley) Chastain, Hephzibah, GA, two nieces, a nephew, and two great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents and a nephew, Jamie Silbaugh. A memorial services will be conducted Saturday April 6, 2013 at 1:30 pm at the First Presbyterian Church of Bath, 6 East Morris Street, Bath with Reverend Janice Fitzgerald officiating. Burial will be in the Nondaga Cemetery at the convenience of the family. The family requests no flowers, perfumes or strong scents.
