Dorothy Evelyn Miller,91,a long-time resident of Bath, NY, entered into rest on Friday, December 16, 2011.Born May 2, 1920, in Dundee, NY, Dorothy was the first born and only daughter of Della Mae (White)and Stanley Swarthout. She was followed by three brothers, Gale, Farrell and Keith.
She married Edwin M. Sprague (deceased) 1943 in Hammondsport . Together they had 5 children. She later married Edward "E.J." Miller in 1968, with whom she had a step-son, Dee Miller (deceased). Dorothy spent many years employed at Westinghouse in Bath, NY, followed by other positions, including at Corning Convenient Store, until her retirement, when she then relocated to Bath from Big Flats to be closer to her children and grandchildren.
Her sense of humor was never lacking, for she always felt that laughter was the best medicine. She possessed a lively spirit and a hearty laugh that will be missed by all. Dorothy loved to cook and bake, crocheting, and spending time with her family, including her 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She always loved to accessorize and never failed, even at 91, to have on her "bling"and make-up, with her hair and nails done to the "nines".
Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, as well as brothers Gale and Farrell (in 1951), and Keith in 1997. She also lost a son, Timothy, in infancy in 1951. She is survived by her 4 loving children, Cheryl (Earl) Putnam, Gale "Butch" (Ruth) Sprague, Vicki King, and Tina (Mike) Monroy, all of Bath. Also, granddaughters Dyana Parsons of Bath, Marcie (Jamie) Johnston of Worcester, MA, and Danielle (Michael) Donovan of Livonia, grandsons, Stacey Putnam of Myrtle Beach, SC, Ryan Sprague of Corning, Farrell Sprague of Rochester, Timothy Sprague of Watertown, and Mickey Monroy of Bath, 2 great-granddaughters, 6 great-grandsons, as well as sister-in-law Esther Swarthout of Interlaken.
Dorothy's family is grateful that she had 91 lively years and takes solace in knowing she is dancing the night away, finally at peace with so many of her family and friends. She will be missed, but will live on through her children and grandchildren, especially through laughter. Rest in peace, "Dawn Evening".
Calling hours will be at Fagan's Funeral Home on Tuesday December 20, from 1 to 3 PM. The Memorial Service will follow at 3 at the funeral home.
