Robert C. Smith, age 75, of Avoca, NY, lost his battle with cancer on Sunday, November 10, 2013 in Bath, NY. He was born July 26, 1938 in Avoca, NY the son of Clair M. and Anna Hoad Smith. He was a United States Army Veteran and a member of the Avoca American Legion. He retired from Dresser Rand in Painted Post, NY and also the Haverling Central School where he worked in maintenance. He was predeceased by his wife Alice M. on September 26, 2004. He is survived by his special friend Lois Cagle; children Shawn Smith (Kim Mello) of Chesapeake, VA, Robert C. (Patty) Smith Jr. of Chesapeake, VA, Yvonne Lisa smith of Manassas, VA, Corbin Smith (Angie Abbot) of Wallace, NY and Kyle Smith of Avoca, NY; five grandchildren, Lucas, Peyton, Joshua, Justin and Shilia, his sister Mary Lou King of Bath, NY; many great nieces, nephew and cousins, Deborah (Greg Smith), Vicky (Joe Patoine), Barbara (Dan Soles), Marlea (Tom Mitchell), Deidra (Mark Conrad) and Keith. A graveside service with military honors will be held on Saturday November 16, 2013 at 1:00 pm at the Valley View Cemetery in Avoca, NY followed by a memorial service at the Avoca American Legion at 2:00 pm with Pastor Barre Butts officiating. Memorial contributions in Robert’s name may be made to the Avoca Legion and Care First.
