Obituary of Laurence C. Gardner

Laurence Clinton Gardner, age 96, of Bath, NY, died Dec. 28 in Jacksonville, NC. He was born in the town of Milo, Yates County, NY, May 2, 1917, the son of Robert E. and Mary Phelps Gardner. Formerly of Penn Yan, NY, Larry and his wife Lucille moved to Bath in 1962. Larry was a graduate of Penn Yan Academy and Cornell University. He served in the US Army Medical Corps during World War II. He was a member of the Benton Methodist Church, and was a past master of Milo Lodge. He also was a member of the Bath Country Club, serving as treasurer for many years. Larry retired from Allied Mills and FmHA, USDA. He owned Gardner-Henderson Ford Mercury dealership in Penn Yan with his brother-in-law, Gerald Henderson. Larry was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Lucille, his parents, and his sister, Roberta Henderson. He is survived by his daughter, Laurie and husband Boyd Tisdale of Jacksonville, N.C; son Dean Gardner of Columbus, OH; grandchildren Bethany Gehring of Dublin, OH, Jason Gardner of Chicago, IL, Mariam Tisdale of Charlotte, NC, Mollie Tisdale of Raleigh, NC, and William Tisdale of Charlotte, NC; and great grandchildren, Michael and Andrew Gehring. Services will be held at Fagans Funeral Home in Bath on Jan.11 at 11:30 am with a graveside service to follow at 1:00 pm in the Benton Cemetery, Benton Center, NY. A memorial tree planting and reception will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Larry and Lucille Gardner may be made to the Benton Methodist Church, Benton Center, N.Y., the church where Larry met his beloved wife Lucille.
