Obituary of Joseph M. Clancy

Joseph Michael Clancy, age 79, of Corning, NY, passed away Saturday, January 11th at the Corning Hospital. He was born October 13, 1934 in Olyphant, PA the son of John and Margaret Sweeney Clancy. Mr. Clancy graduated from Olyphant High School in 1952, he joined the Air Force in July, 1953 and was discharged on July 8, 1957. He attended Mansfield State College and graduated in May 1961, then went on to receive a Master’s Degree from Elmira College. Mr. Clancy married Kathryn Cowley on August 6, 1960 and they moved to Bath in 1961. He taught sixth grade at the Dana L. Lyon Elementary School for 30 years. He ran the Educational Summer trips for the children of Bath and was a charter member of the Haverling Hippo Club. He was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Church in Bath and a Life Member of the Bath B.P.O.E. 1547 and a Life Member of the K of C, council 5147 in Bath. Mr Clancy was also a member of the Bath Village Board for 14 years. He volunteered with the Meals on Wheels Program and was a Basketball referee for several years. He enjoyed his many trips to Cape May, NJ and Myrtle Beach, SC. He was a huge fan of the NY Yankees and Buffalo Bills.
They moved to Corning, NY when his health began to fail, to be closer to his family. He is survived by Katy, his loving wife of 53 years; his children, Colleen (Stephen) Clancy-Hess, Bridget (Joseph) McKenna and Michael Clancy all of Corning, NY; grandchildren, Jacqueline Hess, Sean McKenna and Sarah McKenna, sister, Ann (Michael) Kratochwill and brothers, Robert Clancy, Patrick (Patricia) Clancy and William (Astrid) Clancy. He was predeceased by his parents and brothers James and John.
Friends may call on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 from 4:00-6:00 pm at Fagan’s Funeral Home in Bath with Memorial Services to follow at 6:00 pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in Mr. Clancy’s name may be made to the Food Bank of the Southern Tier and St. Mary’s Church of Bath bereavement committee.
