Obituary of Vesta D. Gardiner

Vesta Gardiner, 90, of Bath, passed away peacefully at home on May 9, with her loving family by her side. She was born June 8, 1923 in Bath, NY the daughter of the late Washington and Nina Sitterly Divens. Vesta devoted her life to loving and supporting her family unconditionally. Vesta took pride in all she did, and set the standard for excellence. She and her husband worked tirelessly remodeling homes together, and it wasn't done until it was" Vesta" approved. She worked as the head cook for the Primary School for nearly 40 years, committed to serving delicious lunches. Vesta was an active member of the Mitchellsville Methodist Church. She volunteered her time to countless church dinners, nobody made a better bisquit! Vesta was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary. You could always look forward to seeing her sell poppies. Vesta enjoyed watching sports and was an avid Yankees fan. She enjoyed traveling with friends on many bus trips and going to dinner on Friday night. Vesta enjoyed watching the birds at the feeders in her backyard. Vesta lived her life with grace and dignity. She was solid gold. She is survived by her son, Ronald (Penny) Gardiner of Palm Bay, FL, granddaughter Ronilyn Sunzeri of Bath, NY; two great granddaughters, Lia Sunzeri of CT and Olivia Sunzeri of Bath, sister Lois Geyer of Bath, NY and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband George Gardiner in 1974 and five siblings, Ezra, Mabel, Thelma, Harold and Ethel. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Vesta's name may be made to the Mitchellesville Methodist Church or Care First.
