Obituary of Anna R. Leach

Anna Ruth (Doyle) Leach, age 97, passed away peacefully at home on May 26, 2020. She was born in 1923 in Buffalo, New York, daughter of Caroline Fredericka Dannebrock and George Doyle. She graduated high school at age 16, and then entered the Jean Summers Business School in Buffalo where she acquired a shorthand speed of 120. Ann started classes in 1940 at what was then Buffalo State. On December 24, 1943, in Bainbridge Georgia, she married the love of her life, Lloyd Howard Leach while he was on 24-hour leave from the Army Air Force. They celebrated 64 years together before he passed in 2006.

Prior to teaching in the Bath School system, Ann worked at the Westinghouse plant testing light bulbs. She then went on to become an elementary school teacher for many years at both Dana Lyon School and the newly opened Vernon E. Wightman School teaching 5th and 3rd grades. She was active in the Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Matron, the Bath Bubbles Red Hat Society, the Centenary United Methodist Church, and the American Association of University Women (AAUW). She was an avid bridge player, and reader who was part of a number of community book clubs.

She is survived by her four children; David (Margaret) Leach of Rochester, Robert (Nancy) Leach of Trumansburg, Pamela Leach of Bath and Christine Wallace of Wethersfield, CT; grandchildren, Karen (Michael) Ierlan of Victor, William Bennett of Jamestown, Courtney Bennett of Wethersfield, CT, Eric (Bethli) Leach of Newfield, Adam (Celeste) Leach of Trumansburg, Amy (Nick) Moe of Trumansburg and Robin (Andrew) Burton of Trumansburg, and twelve great grandchildren. This family meant the world to her.

Ann would like any memorial donations to be sent to the Finger Lakes SPCA, the Centenary United Methodist Church or their favorite charity. A Celebration of her life will be held on August 27, 2022 at 11:00 am at the Centenary United Methodist Church in Bath, NY.
