Obituary of Mary Serdula Robins

Mary Serdula Robins On the evening of Sunday November 8, 2020 Mary Serdula Robins peacefully left this world at the age of 96. Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, as well as aunt and great-aunt to many. She will be deeply missed by her three children, Jeffrey Robins, Janet Robins Kenyon, and Jill Robins Grimsman. Her grandchildren, Jon Kenyon, Joel Kenyon, Austin Grimsman, and Schuyler Grimsman, and so many of her relatives and cherished friends who loved her so much. Mary was preceded in death by her parents Anthony and Terezia Urban Serdula, husband Robert Wilson Robins, as well as her sisters Anna Lee, Sue Schilberger, Helen Frey and brothers Charlie, Stephen, John, and George Serdula. Everyone loved Mary, and the impact of her passing will be everlasting on her family and friends. She was the sweetest woman with a selfless heart. As the eldest daughter among her siblings, Mary was the central part of her ever-growing family, the “glue” that held everyone together. Outliving those who were closest to her, she experienced a lot of loss over the years, but she was so unbelievably strong that you wouldn’t have known the heartbreak she endured. Mary was never negative, and her boundless strength carried on until her very last breath. Mary was born on April 20,1924 in Corning NY to parents Anthony and Terezia Urban Serdula. From a young age Mary’s bond with her mother was incredibly strong. She was a devoted daughter and lovingly helped with the raising of her siblings, a role she carried forward through the years. In 1942 when she was 18 years old, Mary and Robert Robins married. Robert being in the Marines led them on many amazing adventures together. She enjoyed traveling around the country, meeting new people, and living in new places. Homesick for her family, she returned to New York from California and soon after they started a family. With a zeal for life, Mary worked at the Eclipse Machine Division of Elmira Heights NY during the war followed by the Bath NY VA Hospital with her closest friends in both food services and mail delivery until she retired in 1988. She thoroughly enjoyed working there, always making new friends wherever she would go. Mary was truly a beautiful person inside and out. With her smiling eyes and gentle nature, she was always inviting, friendly, sweet, caring, loving, and compassionate. Her love for her family and friends was her true calling in life. Mary spent much time worrying about everyone that she cared about. She was selfless, never once complaining about needing more than she had, never asking too much of anyone for anything. Mary loved company, never declining or turning down an invitation to spend time with her family and friends. You could not go anywhere without running into people she knew. She was truly loved by all. Mary Serdula Robins left us quietly and peacefully in her home full of love while surrounded by her children, son-in-law, and her granddaughter, leaving their hands to be in God’s hands to rest for eternity in Heaven. Mary loved the song “Que Sera, Sera” by Doris Day, and the last time she heard it, it brought her to tears. If you ever hear this song in the future, think of our sweet beloved Mary. A graveside service will be held with her immediate family at Seaman’s Cemetery in Savona, NY.
