Obituary of Dora J. Smith

Dora J. Smith (Jean), age 80, of Bath, NY passed away peacefully to join the Lord on Friday, December 18, 2020. She was born February 7, 1940 in Penn Yan, NY the daughter of the late William and Mary (Orr) Hall. Her first job was working as a seamstress for Michael Sterns in Penn Yan, NY, until she was married. Mrs. Smith went to work at the Haverling Elementary School cafeteria when her kids were in school, and they remember being able to see her in the lunch line and sometimes getting a little extra dessert. In 1979 she started as a cleaner at the Steuben County Infirmary and worked her way to becoming Supervisor of Housekeeping. She retired from the Steuben County Health Care Facility in 2003 and moved to North Carolina with her husband to enjoy retirement together. She enjoyed the time being with her husband and soulmate, working outdoors, fishing and going to auctions. She enjoyed time with her kids, grandkids, friends and all her family. She also enjoyed doing puzzles and crocheting. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years Lloyd (Jim) Smith on January 12, 2017, and two brothers; Enoch Hall and Leonard Hall and her sister, Anna Multer. "Our mother is now really home for the holiday's with the Lord and her husband." She is survived by her children; James E. Smith, David P. Smith (Norma) and Pamela (Matthew) Prescott; grandchildren, Bradley E. Smith, Tiffany A. Smith (Preston), Krystal N. Smith, Bryan J. Smith and Ashleigh N. Smith (Christopher) and great grandchildren, Brooke and Lily and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held in the spring 2021. "Mom, when you closed your eyes and soared to the heavens, I could hear the faint flutter of your wings as you left to be with the Lord and with Dad."
