Obituary of John Junior Roof

John J. Roof, age 73, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 13, 2021. He battled many health issues later in life and we are comforted to know he is no longer in pain and with his loved ones once again that went on before him. John was born February 9, 1948 in Elmira, NY. Son of the late Lorna Olin and John Roof. John worked for a time at Hardinge Bros in Elmira, NY and then went on to become a NYS Corrections Officer, proudly retiring after 27 years of Service. He is survived by his three daughters: Jean R. Fontana of Victor, NY, Jessica L. Goodsell of Farmington, NY, Kimberly A. Bentley of Bath, NY, as well as his five granddaughters, one grandson and one great-granddaughter. Per John’s request, a private graveside service for immediate family will be held at the Bath National Cemetery, where John will be receiving military honors. John was very proud to have served in the United States Air Force and has always been proud of all his brothers and sisters who have served and continue serving today.
