Obituary of Sylvester Walter Holzer

Sylvester "Sy" Walter Holzer, age 94, of Bath, NY, died Thursday, August 7, 2014 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA. He was born November 1, 1919 in Pittsburgh, PA the son of Joseph and Thekla (Gloekel) Holzer. He retired from the Bath VAMC as Hospital Administrator. He was a World War II Army Veteran. Mr. Holzer was a member of St. Mary's Church, the V.F.W. Post 1470 and the Charles E. Wescott American Legion Post 173 in Bath. He was predeceased by his parents, his first wife Evelyn June Holzer, son Dennis Holzer, daughter Patricia McCarthy, four brothers and four sisters. He is survived by his wife Nancy (Psalm) Holzer of Bath, daughter Darlene (Tim) Cooney of Cedar Falls, IA, son Michael (Marianne) Holzer, daughter Diane (Rick) Chase of Tampa, FL, 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to call at St. Mary's Church on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 from 10:00-11:00 am with a Mass of Christian burial to follow at 11:00 am with Father Peter Anglaaere as celebrant, assisted by Deacon Dave Lafortune. Burial with military honors will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Bath. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Mr. Holzer's name may be made to St. Mary's Church, 32 East Morris Street, Bath, NY 14810.
