Obituary of Walter S. Zydanowicz

Walter S. Zydanowicz passed away Saturday evening (August 16th, 2014) surrounded by his loving family. He was 89 years old. Walt was born in West Virginia on October 10th, 1924, son of the late Peter and Amelia Zydanowicz. As a child, Walt and his siblings moved to Coss Corners in Bath, NY. He was a graduate of Haverling High School where he was active in track and basketball. He served in the Navy on a submarine during World War II. Walt married his life long love Donna (Finch) Zydanowicz on October 26th, 1946 at St. Mary's Church in Bath and they built their family home at 105 Maple Heights in Bath. He was employed by Westinghouse, and retired as Superintendent in charge of Maintenance. After retirement, Walt joined his wife in their family business Donna's Antiques for over 40 years which was run out of their home. Walt enjoyed spending each winter in Naples, Florida. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, Elks, and the American Legion. He was a very kind hearted, generous person that impacted many individuals throughout his lifetime.
Walt leaves behind his four devoted children; Sherry (Dennis) Hoad, Terry Sack, Bryan (Penny) Zydanowicz, and Kim (Roger) Pruden; his 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and several nieces, nephews, and cousins that meant the world to him. Walt was predeceased by his beloved wife and best friend of 55 years, Donna who has been waiting in heaven for him since 2002. Walt was the last living sibling of his brothers Peter, Stanley, and Frank, sisters Millie, and Ginger (Moran), along with his best friend Arthur Moran, and grandson Jesse L. Pruden.
Visitation services will be held on Wednesday, August 20th, 2014 from 5-8pm at Fagan's Funeral Home in Bath with an Elks Service at 7:45 pm. The funeral mass of Christian burial will be on Thursday, August 21st, 2014 at 11am at St. John Vianney Parish, 32 E. Morris Street in Bath. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Walter's name may be made to the Knight's of Columbus Council #5147, 7161 State Route 54, Bath, or the Bath Volunteer Fire Department, 50 E. Morris Street.
