Obituary of Charles W. Barrett

Charles W. Barrett, 83, of Avoca, passed away Oct. 1, 2014 at the Vincent House in Wayland, NY. Born May 23, 1931 to the late Walter and Mina Barrett. He is survived by the love of his life, Dorothy Pierson Barrett. On Sept. 8, 2014 they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. He is also survived by his sons and daughters: Lonnie (Linda) Barrett of Avoca; Don (Regina) Barrett of E. Bloomfield; Dorothea (Dan) Snyder and Jennifer (Brad) Gleason of Bath; Colleen (Rhett) Butler of Glendale, AZ and Michael (Astra) Barrett of Ocala, FL; Charles Cecil of Nashville, TN and Barry Chrysler of Bath; grandchildren: Shannon Stratton, Sean Stratton, Heather Wainwright, Valerie Cecil, Pamela Howell, Danielle Bonicave, Dawn Snyder, Daniel Snyder II, Adrien Gleason, Aaron Gleason, Amanda Jo Gleason, Raymond Rumsey, Anthony Rumsey, Megan Lombard, Storme Chrysler, Jason Dawson, Michael Alan Barrett, Rachael Barrett, Samantha Barrett and Melissa Barrett and several great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter, Kimberlee Cecil and his granddaughter, Deborah Saltsman. Charles retired from Taylor Wine Co. after 33 years and also painted houses. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, tinkering in his workshop, building toys and bird houses, working on cars with his sons, and built three homes in the Avoca area. He and Dorothy spent many enjoyable years catering weddings and also playing Santa and Mrs. Claus. He was truly a Jack-of-All-Trades. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Charles's name to the Vincent House, 310 Second St., PO Box 522, Wayland, NY 14572. A Celebration of Life will be held October 12, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the VFW, Route 54, Bath. Arrangements are made with Fagan's Funeral Home, 31 W. Morris St., Bath. Burial will be at the Nondaga Cemetery at a later date.
