Obituary of Jean Z. Gerych
Jean Zarudsky Gerych age 102 passed away on September 14, 2022 surrounded by family. She was born in New York City to William and Anna Zarudsky and was the oldest of four children. Jean married William “Bill” Gerych and they eventually moved to Bath. Bill then started the Gerych TV and Appliance store on route 415. She became a widow at age 45 and was left to raise her two youngest children (ages 5 and 8).
Jean was a talented hairdresser who worked until age 75 because she feared growing old if she retired. She sang for many years in the Centenary United Methodist church choir and the Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes. She loved to dance and listen to the Lawrence Welk show. Jean enjoyed roses, especially red ones, and loved dogs Stoney and Goliath.
Jean loved being with her family. She would spend hours preparing delicious Ukrainian food such as pierogies and cabbage rolls and making delicious apple pies for them. She was the best mom. She will be remembered as being kind, generous and full of life to all who knew her.
Jean is survived by sons Robert Gerych of Bath, NY and William D (MaryAnn) Gerych of Corfu, NY, daughter Susan (Richard) Krucher of Erie, CO; brother John Zarudsky of Uniondale, NY; grandchildren Stephanie (Theo Gunkler) Krucher of Lafayette, CO, Megan (Jake) Reinhardt of Corfu, NY, Matthew Krucher of Erie, CO and William R Gerych of Buffalo, NY; great grandchildren Kensie Gunkler, Ryan Gunkler and Ruby Reinhardt; niece Mary Zarudsky of Brooklyn, NY; sisters-in-law Olga (Carl) Savino and Helen Slayton.
She was predeceased by spouse William Gerych, daughter Marion Lee Gerych, brother William Zarudsky and sister Marion Quick.
Visitation will be on Monday September 19, 2022 from 5:00-7:00 pm and Tuesday September 20, 2022 from 10:30-12:00 pm, followed by the funeral service at 12:00 pm on Tuesday all at Fagan's Funeral Home in Bath. Graveside services will be held in Nondaga Cemetery on Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made in her name to the Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes, info@osfl.org.
