Obituary of Roy J. Stocking
Hammondsport – Roy James Stocking, 74, of Hammondsport, passed away peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by his loving family, Saturday, Sept. 24, 2022 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira.
Roy was born Feb. 19, 1948 in Cooperstown, to Harold and Velma Stocking, and the family relocated to Fairmont, W.Va. In his cherished home state of W.Va., he met the love of his life, Cindy. Roy served in the US Navy from 1966-68. His engineering career led him and family to the Bath/Hammondsport area in the early 1990s, and he retired from Philips Lighting. Cindy and Roy marked 51 years of marriage earlier this year.
Roy never met a stranger he couldn’t call a friend. He was loved by everyone and always knew how to conjure laughs during conversations. He loved to follow WVU football and faithfully sported his WVU attire almost everywhere he went. Roy, along with friends and family, often reminisced about treasured memories shared at home on Corbin Branch Road in W.Va.
Roy is survived by his beloved wife, Cindy, of Hammondsport; son, Matthew (Cyrene) Stocking, and dearest grandson Henry, of Lithuania; daughter, Anna (Rob) DeVaul, of Bath; brothers, Ron (Jacky) Stocking, and Rick (Margie) Stocking, all of W.Va.; brother-in-law, Tim (Pam) Wallace, of W.Va.; sisters-in-law, Marsha Everson, of Georgia, Susan (Terry) Shipley, Diane Wallace, and Kathy (David) Lehosit, all of W.Va.; special niece, Diane (Dave) Moore, of Watertown; and special nephew, Rob (Marilesa) Yost of W.Va. Roy leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and extended family members, all who he loved dearly. He is survived by special friend Bub Harker. He will be missed by his precious feline companion, Missy. He was predeceased by his parents, sister, Norma Jean Yost, and his brother, David Stocking.
Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Sept. 30 at Hammondsport United Methodist Church, 35 Lake St. A burial service with Military Honors will follow at 1 p.m. at Bath National Cemetery, San Juan Avenue, Bath.
