MaryAnn Machuga

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of MaryAnn (Sutryk) Machuga, age 81, of Bradford, NY. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. She passed away Saturday, May 6, 2023, at home surrounded by her family. MaryAnn was born on September 13, 1941, to the late Joseph and Genevieve Sutyrk. MaryAnn and Edward Machuga were married in Bradford on July 8, 1961. She was a life-long Bradford resident, the Bradford Central School Class of 1959 Salutatorian, and a regular parishioner at St. Stanislaus Church in Bradford. She will be fondly remembered for the love she had for her family, her quick wit, sense of humor and the sparkle in her blue eyes. She had a passion for sports, music, crossword puzzles, and she was a devoted Elvis fan.

She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Edward J. Machuga and their beloved children Edward (Lori) Machuga II, Linette (Dick) Miller, Eric (Erica) Machuga, and David (Wendy) Stone; and her cherished grandchildren, Madison, Rhiannon, Richard, Blaze, Autumn, Taylor, Sara, and Ally. She is also survived by her brother, Frank Sutryk of Waverly, sister, Alice (Harry) House of Bradford, brother, Joseph Sutryk of Tennessee, sisters-in-law, Jean Sutryk, Nancy Machuga and Thelma Buckle, special Aunt Joanie Buck, along with many others she considered “her kids,” several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, brother, Leonard Sutryk Sr., sister-in-law, Rhoda Sutryk and brothers-in-law, John Machuga, Richard Machuga, and David Machuga.

Together, MaryAnn and Ed created a wonderful life together beginning with a 1500-acre farm with a picturesque view of the valley below, Machuga Farms. Later they built, and were successful business owners of, Ranch 226 Tavern and Ranch Grocery. MaryAnn was a hard-working businesswoman who seemed to be able to manage it all. She lovingly maintained the farm, and both businesses, all while raising a family. MaryAnn always made time for others, and she took many children into her home over the years. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

MaryAnn had a true love of games! She was a huge supporter of her children, grandchildren, and others, attending decades worth of sporting events, cheering loudly from the bleachers!  She enjoyed weekly family card games, annual trips to the Little League World Series, cheering on her son, brother-in-law, and nephew from her booth at the former Black Rock Speedway, and passionately watching the NY Yankees and Buffalo Bills. The next time you’re at a sporting event, know that she is there beside you, smiling and cheering loudly too!
