When I got let go from my AV job, I went to Saugus TV to pitch a show in which I hosted horror movies as a character that I'd done before. Rich loved my Audio/Visual background and saw how it could benefit the station, and practically hired me on the spot. It was then that a lifelong friendship was born. He not only took me in and embraced my skill set, but also became a mentor to me, showing me how it's okay to be boisterous in life and he wasn't afraid to simply be himself no matter where he was, or what situation he was in. I learned a lot from Rich, both technically, and in life, and I'll carry those lessons with me to the end of days. He fought against trivial town politics and remained who he was not matter what the cost was. We had a mentor/student sort of relationship, but we loved each other like brothers. As it happens, time sort of separated us, but he reached out to me recently, and I can't help wonder if he knew his days were numbered and that's why he sent me a message. We caught up briefly, and it sounded like he was in a good place back in his home state of New York. I'm sad that I'm such (an admittedly) horrible friend, and I didn't keep in touch like I should have. I'll always miss his beeping his car horn whenever he went over a bridge, for good luck. And I'll always laugh at the time he was running AV for a show and I sent "LOL" to him, and he freaked out because he thought it meant "Lots of Luck," which is bad luck to wish someone "luck" before a performance of any kind. Rich was the kindest, dearest person you could ever meet, and the world is a darker place without him in it. He'll always be in my heart, he'll always be my brother, and he'll always be the guy that put me on the path that I'm on now. I just wish I could have been a better friend and stayed more in touch with him, but that damned life kept getting in the way. Godspeed, Rich, I'll see you on the other side eventually, and I'll be waiting to hear your room-filling laughter as I'm sure you've already gotten on the nerves of those in heaven, and too bad for them!! Miss you always!!!
