Marvin C Smith “Marty”, 85, of Tyrone, NY, passed away peacefully September 2, 2023, at the  Guthrie Medical Center with his loving family and friends by his side.  

Marty was born in Corning, NY to Helen and Clyde Smith on September 18, 1937. He attended  North Side high school in Corning, NY. He then went on to serve in the U.S. Army at the young  age of 17. Marty loved spending time with his family, friends, and his dog Eli. He also enjoyed  cruising the waters of Lamoka Lake in his hand crafted pontoon boat with family and friends.  He was an incredible artist and had a passion for painting, playing piano, and the accordion.  Some say Marty was undoubtedly the best “Manhattan maker” there ever was. Aside from all of  his achievements and pleasures, Marty was a devoted father, grandfather, great grandfather,  son, brother, uncle, and friend.  

Marty is survived by his loving son, David (Edie) Smith, daughter in law Marcy Smith, grandsons  Jacob (Erin) Smith, Ryan Smith, Kyle (Lisa) Smith, and granddaughter Casey Smith. 7 great  grandchildren, Scarlett, Lincoln, Myrtle, Kylie, Marley, Kylan, and Khloe. His sisters Linda Dale,  and Mary Costa. His favorite niece Debbie, along with Many other nieces, nephews, and  cousins. He is preceded in death by his son, Marvin “Marty” Smith, mother and father Helen and  Clyde Smith, and sister Shirley Smith.  

In memory of Marty, friends and family are invited to join in a memorial gathering at the VFW  on Rte. 54 in Bath, NY on Sunday September 24th, from 2-5 PM.
