I always wanted to follow in the footsteps of all our family members who proudly 'wore the uniform', and there were oh, so many. Cousin Bruce was one of these [He and Cousin Richard {O'Konsky} enlisted and 'Took the Oath' together in Syracuse. They were supposed to enter active duty under the 'Buddy System', but somehow Cousin Bruce was delayed and it never materialized.]. I remember corresponding with him when he served [he was stationed in Greece at the time], and the homesickness just seemed to drip from his letters [Ours was a large family that played, fought, and loved 'hard'; we were close.]. It's not general knowledge, but after his stint in the Army, Cousin Bruce was actually recruited into the Navy by his own brother, Michael. As far as I know, he and I were the only two that served in two branches of the military - he in the Army and Navy and I in the Army and Air Force. He was stationed at NAS Miramar [Yep, the 'Top Gun' Miramar] where he was tasked with maintenance on the ejection seats of the F4 Phantoms. Pilots always tried to stay on the good side of he and his 'comrades'... lol! I fondly recall when Cousin Bruce returned after being discharged, and we would sit on the old front porch of my Cameron home. He would strum that guitar of his and sing, and I would just listen. My favorite song was 'Lonesome Fugitive'; he seemed to put a lot of feeling into that song. I will miss your good-natured, wry humored FB posts, my cousin. Say hello to Richard for me and... I will see you soon.

Dad,
I am glad that we got the time we got to mend our differences before your passing. I will hold our good memories, no matter how many or how few, close to my heart always. I’ll also let the mistakes of time lost not bear heavy on my heart because we agreed the past was the past. It meant the world to hear you tell me, your only daughter, that no matter what you always loved me…as I did you. Rest well and keep an eye on all of us…until we meet again, I love you dad❤️
