Obituary of Herbert Luther Fraser

Herbert "Herb" Luther Fraser of Bath, NY passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at home, surrounded by his loving family.  He was born on July 9, 1929 in Clarkstown, NY to the late Frank and Carrie Mae Luther Fraser.

He is survived by his five daughters; Linda (Don) Herbert, Terry (Dave) Austin, Nancy (Galen) Root, Gloria (Don) Burgess and Selena Fraser; 12 grandchildren, Heather (Kendall) Topley, Dawn Herbert and Jason Stephens, Shane (Lisa) Austin, Shawn (Amie) Austin, Tom Root and Tammy Knowles, Tammy Rooney, Galen Root and Sica Ianuzi, Brett (Bonnie) Root, Jason Burgess, Joshua (Samantha) Burgess, Zach Livingston and Matt Livingston; 22 great grandchildren, 8 great great grandchildren, sister, Pat (Dick) Price; brothers, Frank (Connie) Fraser and Ernie (Martha) Anderson.

He was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth in 2021 after 72 years of marriage, his sister Lois Haynes, his brothers, Dan Fraser and Leon Fraser and step father Ernest Anderson.

Dad began his career at Corning Glass Works in 1945 at 16 years old, retiring from the Big Flats Plant in 1987.  He received his 75 year service pin in 2020.  He worked at several Corning Glass Works plants including Fallbrook, Main Plant and Big Flats.  He interrupted his work career when he enlisted in the Army Air Force in 1946 and was honorably discharged in 1949.  He was stationed in Newfoundland, Canada where he met mom.  They were married in 1949 and moved to Corning, NY.  They raised their family in Corning.  Dad not only worked at CGW but also drove a school bus parttime for Robert Watson and obtained his high school GED 1950.  After his retirement in 1987, Dad and Mom travelled and moved to Florida and lived there for 13 years before returning to the Corning area.

Dad and Mom enjoyed bowling and camping, while Dad also enjoyed a shuffleboard team in Florida.  Dad also was proud of his job as a Security Guard at the St. Pete Airport.  They returned to this area and have lived in Bath since 2005.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Finger Lakes SPCA, 12 Cameron St., Bath, NY 14810. Per Dad's wishes, there will be no calling hours or visitation.  Burial will be in the Bath National Cemetery at a later date, at the convenience of the family.
