Obituary of Timothy James Leonard
Timothy James Leonard September 7, 1965 – May 18, 2024
Timothy James Leonard was born in Penn Yan, NY to Karen (Orr) (Leonard)Hoagland. He was lovingly raised by his grandmother Viola Orr and her husband Clifford Orr, and Viola’s mother and father, Estella Maud Burg and Lorenzo Warren Burg. He lived on Youngs Street in Penn Yan until his adult life. Tim was a known figure in the small community, because he was always willing to pitch in and help, even in dire circumstances. He graduated from Penn Yan Academy and was an avid member of the Penn Yan Volunteer Fire Department and, later, the Branchport Volunteer Fire Department. Tim worked in several vocations, and always held a job. He always had a firm sense of what family meant, and became a loving father, husband, and grandfather. He was adored by his children and grandchildren. He was a staunch provider for his loved ones until cancer crept into his life. He and his wife Patty shared their life in Bath, NY and they worked, voluntarily providing great hope, resources, and respite, to the homeless community. It was impossible to know his loving and giving heart, and not love the man himself. He succumbed peacefully, after a long fight, in his home. The Orrs and Burgs are a large family. Most of his ancestral family has predeceased him. He is survived by 2 sisters – Tammi McIlwaine (Zip), and Tonia Christensen, An Uncle – Ralph Orr, several cousins, and many nieces and nephews. His beloved nuclear family grieves his death - Wife Patricia Leonard, daughters Britnee Leonard, Elizabeth Gee, Amanda Benedict, and Alicia Benedict, along with several grandchildren. Special mention to a lifelong deep familial and friend relationship with his cousin Victoria Anne Bodine de Martinez. There are no calling hours. A celebration of life will be held on June 9th, at 3 pm, at Bath Baptist Church. Donations can be made in any way to the homeless community, and agencies helping to relieve homelessness.
