Obituary of Kathryn Ann Clancy
Kathryn Ann Clancy, age 87 of Corning, NY, passed away on Tuesday, June 11th after a lengthy illness. Kathryn was born March 5, 1937 in Olean, NY. She was the only child of J. Randall and Nora Butler Cawley.
Kathryn graduated from Eldred High School (PA) in 1955 and from Mansfield State Teachers College in 1959. While at Mansfield, Kathryn met her future husband, Joseph Clancy.
Kathryn and Joseph were married on August 6, 1960 and were married for 54 years until Joseph’s death in 2014.
Kathryn is survived by her children Colleen (Stephen) Hess, Bridget (Joseph) McKenna, and Michael Clancy. Grandchildren: Jacqueline Hess, Sean McKenna, and Sarah McKenna. She also loved her 2 grand dogs Shamrock Hess and Sunny McKenna.
Kathryn taught for over 30 years in both the Dana Lyon Elementary School and the Vernon E. Wightman Primary School in Bath. Katy is fondly remembered for combining her love of reading and birds by teaching her famous “Bird Unit” to her 1st grade students each spring.
Kathryn was a member of both St. Mary’s Church in Bath and All Saints Parish in Corning. She spent many years volunteering her time with the “Babies First Book” program at the Ira Davenport Hospital.
She cherished her time with family and friends in Cape May, Hilton Head, and Myrtle Beach. Later in life she enjoyed time relaxing at her daughter’s cottage on Keuka Lake and playing video poker at Tioga Downs Casino.
Calling hours will be held on June 19th from 11:00 AM –1:00 PM with a Memorial Service immediately following at Fagan’s Funeral Home, Bath, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Food Bank of the Southern Tier or St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital.
