Dan proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army, where he exhibited immense courage and resilience during the Tet Offensive in Vietnam. After returning home, Dan spent his career as a reliable truck driver and an all-around handyman, always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Despite the challenges he faced, including his battle with respiratory failure, lung cancer, and post-traumatic stress disorder, Dan's spirit remained unbroken. Bates, Dan was the 12th of 13 children, each of whom added a unique thread to the rich tapestry of his life.
