Helen W. Finney
Helen Finney passed on Tuesday April 17, 2012 at Gulfside Hospice in Zephyrhills, Florida. Helen was born in Canisteo on August 13, 1924 to Myles and Bernice Potter Stephens, graduated from Canisteo High School in 1942 and married Rodney Finney, Jr. on November 17, 1945. She resided most of her life in Bath, NY.
She is survived by her children: Korinne Finney of Aberdeen, MD, Lonnie (Pat) Finney of Woodbury, NJ, Rodney S. (Debra) Finney and Jon (Tanya) Finney both of Bath, NY; eight grandchildren Susan (Ken) Wise, Michael (Sue) Coon, Jill (Tom) Shiflett, Matthew (Michelle) Hill, Lori (Adam) Kisiah, Ryan (Sarah Emmons) Finney, Jake Finney, and Jonathan Finney; ten great-grandchildren: Brandon Wise, Evan Wise, Ashley Wise, Maria Umberger, Bradley Coon, Kristyn Shiflett, Kyle Shiflett, Nathan Hill, Emily Hill and Noah Kisiah; two great-great-grandchildren: Jileane Umberger and Dawson Coon; Two step children Robert Finney and Nancy Frey, one brother Harland L. Stephens of Montour Falls, NY and Zephyrhills, FL plus many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Rodney Finney, Jr., a brother Gerald Stephens, a sister Audrey Typhair and step daughter Ann Miggliaccio.
During World War II Helen was employed at Norden Bombsite Factory in Elmira, NY. After her children were born she was a homemaker and later worked at both the Vernon E. Wightman School and at Parson & Finney, Inc. in Bath. She was a past member of the Snowflakes Snowmobile Club and Charles E. Wescott Post 173 Legion Auxiliary in Bath. She will always be remembered by her children and grandchildren for her wonderful family meals and baked goods. Her hand written recipes will be cherished for generations.
Calling hours will be held at Fagan's Funeral Home in Bath, NY on Thursday May 3 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm with services at 8pm officiated by Rev William Spencer. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Helen's memory to Gulfside Hospice 5760 Dean Dairy Road, Zephyrhills, FL 33542.
