Obituary of Barbara Ruth Shipman

Barbara Ruth Shipman was born April 22, 1950 in Elmira, New York to Dr. William L. and Ruth W. Shipman and passed away March 25, 2017 at the age of 66, at Elcor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Horseheads, NY. Barb attended Hendy Avenue School, Elmira Free Academy, Syracuse University, Corning Community College and Alfred University obtaining a Master's Degree. She became a registered nurse. She worked for Dr. King R. Snyder, Chemung County Health Traveling Nurses, Chemung County Psych Center and finally retired from Chemung Correctional Facility in Elmira Heights. She was on the board of the Chemung County Humane Society. She was a member of the Chemung County Kiwanis and Daughters of the American Revolution Chemung Chapter. Barb had been a past volunteer at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. She had a great love of horses and dogs. She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Pellenz Marsh of Chittenango, NY; nephews, Christopher D. (Mary Lou) Pellenz of Kirkville, NY and William H. (Barbara) Pellenz of Chittenango, NY, grand niece, Catherine A. Pellenz of Syracuse, NY; grand nephews, Josh Jones of Fort Drum, NY, Christopher P. Pellenz and David J. Pellenz both of Kirkville, NY and several cousins throughout the country. She was predeceased by her parents and her precious dogs, Nokomis and McLaren. Private burial will be held in Baxter Cemetery, Addison, NY. Donations may be made in Barb's memory to the Chemung County Humane Society.

Burial will be in the Baxter Cemetery in Addison, NY at the convenience of the family.
