Obituary of Margaret Barbara Thomas

Margaret B. Thomas,76, of Bath, New York, passed away peacefully at her home on April 25, 2017. Margaret was born in Trenton, New Jersey to Frank and Margaret Thomas on September 15, 1940. She went to high school at William MacFarland High School in Bordentown, New Jersey and graduated in 1958. She was one of two people (and the only woman) to earn her "Old English B" for her letter sweater the year she graduated for her involvement with sports. She could referee boy's basketball with the best of them! Margaret primarily worked as a secretary while living in New Jersey for agencies such as the Hamilton Township Department of Public Works and the New Jersey Education Association. After moving permanently to Bath to be closer to her daughter in 2000, Margaret found her calling by joining the staff at the Dormann Library in Bath. She worked there as a library clerk for over thirteen years. Many local folks fondly remember Margaret's phone calls when material they ordered arrived at the library. She was especially nice to the patrons she had to call about overdue books. Margaret enjoyed reading (always reading the last page of mysteries first), doing puzzles, and cheating at Solitaire. She was quite crafty when she was younger and liked surrounding herself with art and wearing colorful clothing. She was always looking for ways to improve herself and was a spiritual seeker, using her pendulum to help her make decisions. Margaret did not belong to any clubs or organization, but did get more progressive in her political views as she got older. In the last few years, Margaret decided to support various local non-profits with a monthly charitable donation. Margaret is survived by her daughter, Tara Didrence of Bath and her son, David Didrence of Trenton, New Jersey. Her family also included her daughter-in-law, Joy Williams of Bath, her little dog Tobyhanna, and various "grand-pets". Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Margaret Thomas and brother, Fran Thomas. Margaret did not want a funeral service. The family will be hosting a celebration of her life at the Empire Room of the Dormann Library in Bath on Saturday, June 17 from 2:30pm to 4:30pm. Anyone that knew Margaret is welcome to attend. There is an online guest book through Fagan's Funeral Home for those unable to attend the gathering. Margaret's cremains will be laid to rest at the family plot in Riverview Cemetery in Trenton, New Jersey at a later date.
