William L. Rice, Sr., age 90, of Bath, NY passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on Sunday, May 14, 2017. He was born March 4, 1927 in Jasper, NY the son of Earl and Hazel Rice. He attended Woodhull School and left school to join the US Navy in 1944. He served in the Asiatic Pacific and was at the Atomic testing site on Bikini Atoll. He received an honorable discharge in 1947. He worked as a Carpenter and Prudential Insurance Agent following his discharge from the Navy. He was a member of the V.F.W. and American Legion. He enjoyed time at home with family and friends as well as his two dogs and cat. He enjoyed building and working on projects at home. William was predeceased by his parents and his brother Charles Rice. He is survived by his wife of 30 years Judith, his brother James (Peg) of Hornell, NY, daughter: Andrea (Lee) Smith of Cloverdale, CA and son, William Rice Jr. of Elmira, NY; step sons, Carl (Sara) Simpson of Corning, NY, Kevin (Tracy) Brooks of Painted Post, NY and Jared (Kelly) Simpsons of Sayre, PA, several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, 22 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren Calling hours will be held on Wednesday May 17, 2017 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Fagan's Funeral Home, 31 West Morris St., Bath, NY. A graveside service will be held on Thursday May 18th at 1:00 pm at the Bath National Cemetery, Bath, NY with military honors.
