Marlea Sherwood, age 86, of Bath, NY, passed away on October 2, 2017 with family by her side and a wine glass in her hand. Marlea was born January 7th 1931 in Ithaca, NY to Vincent Lamont and Sybil Culver . She is survived by her three children; her daughter Lee Ann (Joey) Leonardo of Ithaca, NY, her son William (Lynn) Cutler and their three daughters; Lauren, Leah and Lindsey of Buffalo, NY and her son Jeffrey (Donna) Sherwood and their 3 children;Maeghan (Will) Hubbard and Marlea's Favorite Great Grandson Jaxon of Avoca, NY, Justin (Alexa Gleason) Sherwood of Bath, NY and MacKenzie (Cameron) Wallace of Havelock NC. Marlea was a big part of the community for over 40 years moving to Bath in the early 70s with her husband Harold, they owned and operated Sherwood's Restaurant now known as Stephanie's on Steuben Street. In the mid 70s Marlea and Harold operated a mobile harness equipment truck that traveled to many a fair through NY and PA to Vermont supplying harness equipment to many harness horseman at their farms in the western NY area. In the early 80s she also owned Marlea's first hand second hand store on Steuben Street which she ran with her husband. From 1986 to 2014 she owned and operated Sherwood's Wine and Liquor on both Buell Street and West Steuben St. She was very active in the community having been a member of the Charles E. Wescott American Legion Post 173 Auxilliary, the Bath Quota Club, the Bath Country Club and the Bath BPW Club. She was also past president of Bath BPW Club in 1992, and she was an active member of the Centenary United Methodist Church . She was bitten by the political bug when she won a seat for village trustee in 1988, which she won by the high draw from a deck of cards after a tie between her and her opponent. One of her proudest moments was getting a chance to meet Hillary Clinton in 1999. Marlea was a proud mother, grandmother and GG. We all miss her smile, spirit and spunk. "cheers to her". Family and friends are invited to call on Friday October 6th from 11:00am-2:00 pm at Fagan's Funeral Home with services to follow at 2:00 pm and a military graveside service for Marlea and Harold Sherwood will follow at 3:00 pm at the Bath National Cemetery. A celebration of their lives will be held at 4:00 pm at the Bath American Legion.
