Obituary of Robert L. Burgess Sr.

Robert L. Burgess, Sr., 93, of Bath, NY, died Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital of Bath, NY. He was born in Coopers Plains, NY on March 31, 1924, the son of the late William H. and Libby E. (Moose) Burgess. Mr. Burgess was a veteran of the US Navy Armed Guard. He retired from the DPW in Steuben County in Bath in 1988, he worked as a farmer for many years and at other local companies as a heavy equipment operator. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and especially spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 67 years Shirley (VanGelder) Burgess; his children, Robert Jr. (Sue), June Spears, Elaine Hendrickson, David (Diana), Donald (Gloria), Amy (Scott) Drake and Faith Burgess (Scott Aspell), 16 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, his sister Mabel Weimer and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles, Howard, Harold, William, Ralph and Paul and his sisters, Edna Vanderwall and Florence Sutton. Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday, November 18th from 1:00-3:00 pm at Fagan's Funeral Home in Bath with funeral services to follow at 3:00 pm. Burial will held at the convenience of the family in Nondaga Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
