Obituary of Harold B. Van Gelder

Harold B. Van Gelder Jr. age 78, of Bath, NY died Monday September 17, 2018 at the Noyes Hospital in Dansville, NY.  He was born November 5, 1930 in Bath, NY the son of Harold B. Sr. and Eleanor (Predmore) Van Gelder.  Mr. Van Gelder retired from Steuben Rural Electric Company in 1996 after 40 years of service.  He was a life member of the Charles E. Wescott American Legion Post 173 in Bath, the V.F.W. Post 1470 in Bath and the Bath Seventh Day Adventists Church.  He had a passion for cutting wood with his chainsaw.  He enjoyed making maple syrup with his son Joe and watching horse racing and boxing on TV.  Mr. Van Gelder was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.  He will be remembered as one who was always willing to help anyone especially his family.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth Van Gelder; children, Steve (Colleen) Van Gelder, Joe (Sue) Van Gelder, Debra (Gavin) Cogswell, Kelly (Bruce) Cranmer and Valerie (Mark) Riley; grandchildren, Steven, Joyelle, Adrian, Jared, Erin, Garrett, Sarah and Courtney; great grandchildren, Hunter, Joslyn, Joel and Arianna, sister, June Cupp, special brother-in-law, Harold Edsall, special nieces, Ginger Kemp and Kathy Blanchard, and favorite pet companions, Peanut and Squeaker as well as several other nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers and three sisters.

Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Fagan's Funeral Home in Bath from 11:00 am-2:00 pm.  Funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm at the funeral home.  Burial with Military Honors will follow in Nondaga Cemetery, Bath.
