Obituary of Evelyn B. Beckman
Evelyn Boyd Beckman, 93, died on September 25, 2012.
Evelyn was the wife of Ellsworth W. Beckman, Sr. who died in 1984 and to whom she was married for 45 years. She was born on June 20, 1919 in Front Royal, Virginia, daughter of Etta Summerville Boyd and James Wilson Boyd. She was a 1937 graduate of Warren County High School in Front Royal, and a graduate of the Fashionette Beauty School. She worked as a beautician in Front Royal and served as Den Mother for her two sons' Cub Scout Packs. She moved to Bath, NY in the early 1950's. She always enjoyed her return trips to Front Royal to visit family and friends.
Of the many jobs she had over her lifetime, Evelyn's favorite was the 18 years she worked as a seamstress at the Steuben County Infirmary where she quickly became acquainted with each new resident. She proudly referred to the Infirmary as a nursing home with personality, due to the employees.
A lifelong Methodist; Evelyn was a member of the United Centenary Methodist Church in Bath, NY.
Those close to Evelyn knew of her love for her family and the great joy she got from her children and her grandchildren. She is survived by her son Ellsworth 'Tink' W. Beckman, Jr. (Kay), of Bath, NY and Leesburg, FL, daughter Bonnie Lyn (Keith) Gustin of Hammondsport, NY, daughter-in-law Beatrice Wilson Beckman of Dover, PA, eight grandchildren, Kym Beckman-Draht, Amy Beckman-Mezger, Jon P. Beckman, Mark A. Beckman, Susan B. Maze, Laura L. Gustin, Brittney L. Gustin and Reid A. Gustin; ten great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
