Obituary of John E. Ambrosone

John E. Ambrosone, age 65 of Bath, NY died suddenly, Tuesday morning, November 20, 2012. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl (Hero) Ambrosone; his daughter Sarah Ambrosone  and his two grand children Wyatt and Joselyn, as well as sisters Mary (Ray) Helmer of Hornell and Margaret Erway, brother-in-law Charles Hero, and a niece, nephews and their families. He is also survived by his father, Joseph Ambrosone of Myrtle Beach, SC, formerly of Corning, NY, and several aunts. John was predeceased by his mother, Marjorie (Dexter) Ambrosone.      John served as a medic in the US Navy during the Viet Nam War. He later joined the US Army Reserves, reaching the rank of Major. He retired from the VA Medical Center in Bath, NY, where he worked as an RN. He was an avid gardener, mentored by the late Frederick Carder of Corning, and was well known throughout the community. He often entered his produce in the Steuben County Fair and helped with Bath Community Gardens, also supplying plants for the St. Mary's gardens, and sharing his produce, skills, and knowledge with all interested. His generous heart and nature have blessed many people through the years as he lent a hand, or tools, or gave food and recipes, gardening wisdom, and more.      He was an avid and enthusiastic cyclist, swimmer, runner over the years with his numerous friends, and enjoyed entering multiple races and marathons.     Calling hours are Saturday, November 24th at Fagan's Funeral Home, 2-4 PM. People are also invited to visit with the family at St. Mary's Church in Bath, NY on Sunday, November 25th, from 1-2 PM, followed by a funeral Mass at 2 PM. After Mass, everyone is invited to join the family in O'Malley Hall of St. Mary's Church for a bereavement supper, and to have time to visit with John's family. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice, in lieu of flowers
