Bath, NY-William D. “Bill” Sherwood, formerly of Howard, NY passed away Friday, December 7, 2012 at the Taylor Health Center. Born November 3, 1927 in the town of Bath to the late Dan and Florence Sherwood. He was one of four children.
Bill met Joyce A. Newman as a young man. They fell in love and were married on June 3, 1951 at the First Presbyterian Church of Bath.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Joyce A. Sherwood, one daughter, Linda J. (Jim) Robords of Prattsburgh, NY, one son, Gordon W. (Holly) Sherwood of Savona, NY; eight grandchildren, Robert (Christine)Scott of Horseheads, NY, Brett (Fawn) Robords of Middlesex, NY, Teresa (Tim) Soporowski of Savona, NY, Rebecca (Jay) Hargrave of Risingville, NY, Kari (TJ) Coots of Bath, NY, Brandy (Ray) Andrews of Savona, NY, Zac (Eloise) Cornell of Tyrone, NY, and Ariel (Matt) Lauper of Bath, NY, one brother Robert (Betty) Sherwood of Campbell, NY and one sister Pauline A. Coots of Bath, NY, 12 great grandchildren and three on the way and many nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his daughter Christine A. Geyer on October 13, 1987 and his sister Genevieve Sherwood.
Bill was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He was an honest man who worked hard for every dollar he earned. He made sure his family was provided for and taken care of. He worked for 30+ years as a heavy equipment operator for the town of Howard before retiring in 1989. Once retired Bill and Joyce were able to enjoy weekends camping around the area, and annually at The State Fair. For many years Bill and Joyce could be found at Judy’s Restaurant every Friday night for the fish fry. Bill was a Ford man and he loved his German Shepherds. In later years, Bill and Joyce enjoyed as much time as they could with their loving family.
Friend and family may come to pay their respects at Fagan’s Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 11th from 12:00-2:00 pm with funeral services to follow at the funeral home at 2:00 pm with Reverend Dan Pickering officiating.
