Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dorothy M. Kimbel Cambeis, 87, passed away March 10, 2013 at the Steuben County Healthcare Facility in Bath, New York. She was born in Wayland, New York to the late Raymond and Mildred Taylor Hoffman.
She was one of thirteen children, predeceased by brothers Harold, Charles, Carl, Robert, Jim and Paul, and sisters Helen, Mary and Betty. She is survived by brothers Frank (Sharon) Hoffman of Wayland, Francis of Hornell and sister Lillian Ryan of Mt. Morris.
She was predeceased by her two husbands Alton Kimbel and Bruce Cambeis. She leaves one daughter, Shirley Edwards and her husband Cliff, and two grandchildren. Shanna has recently returned from Portland, Oregon, and Loren and special friend Ashley Trent of Woodbridge, Virginia.
Dorothy was first a farmwife and mother before being employed at Birdseye of Wayland. She moved to Dansville to work at G. C. Murphy Co. for over ten years before moving to the Bath area to work at the “New” W.T. Grant Co. in the Grant Plaza. After the Grant Co. closing, she became Director of the local American Red Cross. She then worked at Bath Television and Service, until her retirement. She sold Avon products for forty-six years, and as her friends and family know, she was a truly committed Avon Lady.
In her younger years, Dorothy enjoyed working with her church organizations the American Legion, The American Cancer Society and Quota Club. She loved her family, her little dog, and her home. Her joys of camping, gardening, sewing, embroidering, knitting and crocheting always kept her busy.
Dorothy’s family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude and special Thank You to her caregivers and many friends at the Healthcare Facility over these past twenty-one months.
Calling hours will be March 23, 2013 between noon and 2:00 pm at Fagan’s Funeral Home on West Morris Street in Bath, New York. A memorial service with Pastor Stan Lyke will follow. A committal service will be held in July at Valley View Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to either the Steuben County Healthcare Activities Fund, or the SPCA of Bath.
