Max and Bennett Collins posted a condolence

Through our mother Gretchen, the Barclay family has been in our lives as long as we can remember.
When we heard the news of Millie's passing, both of us reflected on her presence throughout our lives: an avid patron at Ben's musicals and talent shows, a cheering fan in the bleachers of Max's wrestling matches, and most of all, an independent, loving, generous, quick-witted, and hilarious woman who taught us everything without having to say anything.
We exchanged stories about the qualities she expressed in her interactions with us and about the life she lived before we came to know her throughout childhood to adulthood.
We both agreed we have never met someone so sweet - and joyful, in every sense of the word. The way she would beam whenever she was surrounded by loved ones taught us to appreciate friends and family, to appreciate the intangible over the material and the eternity of a moment of love over the finite life of something that can't even play dominos with you.
And she taught us how to laugh. With that sweetness came an unexpected and hilarious sass and competitiveness on the card table. As much as she loved her card games, she loved winning them even more. In fact, we are able to recall her delightful laugh so well because nothing brought her more joy than knocking one of us out in a game of 99 (even when we were pre-teens). But then we didn't mind, because when she laughed, she spoke her own language, telling everyone in the room 'I love you, and that love is constant and ever-present. Even when I will make you all lose terribly'.
And then we thought about what her life was like before we all met. She was a caterer with her family and a bus driver, careers that both connected and served the community in unquantifiable ways. We take solace in that she was able to touch countless people with her joyfulness, generous spirit, and, yes, her sass, and in her own way made the world a much better place for it.
We know that Millie isn't our relative by blood, but looking into our Irish roots, we're reminded of the concept 'Anam Cara'. Translated from old Gaelic as 'Friend of the Heart', or Soul Friend. Its significance, according Irish poet and philosopher John O'Donahue, is that 'you are joined in an ancient and eternal union with humanity that cuts across barriers of time, convention, philosophy, and definition. When you are blessed with Anam Cara, the Irish believe you have arrived at the most sacred place: home.'
And home you shall remain, Millie.

My family and I feel abundantly blessed to have been loved by Millie as if we were her own. I am personally grateful for all that Millie has given me, helping shape me into the person I am through her wisdom, values and serving as an example of what it means to love life, family, and friends. My heart is grieving the loss of her, my second "mom" for 45 years and then, even more so when losing my own in 1994. I cannot imagine a greater blessing that to have known Millie, and Sam, and to have had so many memories they created because of who they were - one in a million. May you Rest In Peace and may we carry on your legacy of goodness until we meet again. We will NEVER forget you. We will miss you FOREVER. Gretchen and family

The loving kindness Millie showed when I was a troubled teenager will never be forgotton. So many good times spent with Millie, Sam, Joyce and Janet; camping in Maine, Cherry Creek church camp, waitressing at catering jobs, sleepovers in Elma. All helped shape the person I am today.
My thoughts are with Janet, Joyce and the extended family. So very sorry for your loss. Millie lives on forever in our hearts.
