John T. Giblin, passed away on Friday, November 24, 2017, he was often known as "Jack". Jack was 89 years of age, born in Passaic, New Jersey September 9, 1928. Jack has one sister, Edythe, (Giblin) Fox. Jack graduated from Tupper Lake High School in 1945. After graduation he spent three years working for the Oval Wood Dish Co. in the scaling depot and as a veneer grader. The OWD produced veneer flooring and hardwood lumber for furniture factories. When the Korean War began Jack was enlisted into the U.S. Army with 17 others from Tupper Lake. They were assigned into the 4th Division (Ivy Division) and were shipped to Germany in "Defense of Freedom". He was a sharp shooter in the 4th, 8th Regiment, 3rd Battalion. After discharge he worked as a forester for Whitney Industries, and for the N.Y.State Conservation Department in Cold River. Jack later took the test for NY State Troopers and entered the Division of State Police in Troop "B" at Malone, NY in September 1954. Trooper Giblin was returning from Civil Court in Canton, NY and was involved in an accident, and his injuries were treated at Mercy Hospital at Watertown. While there, he met nurse Mary McDonald. The two were introduced by a chaplain who was a mutual friend. Jack and Mary were married in 1958 in Holy Family Church in Watertown. Mary and Jack had five children; Jean Marie Dougherty of Davie, FL, John Giblin Jr. of Batavia, NY, Janet (Giblin) Buruchian of Boca Raton, FL, Mary Beth Giblin of Hollywood, FL and Stephen Giblin of Philadelphia, PA and nine grandchildren. Mary predeceased Jack on 10/9/2008. Jack had two promotions; Line Sgt. to Troop "A", Batavia, NY and to Zone Sgt. in 1966. Zone Sgt. Giblin retired March 14, 1983 at Bath, NY. After retirement Jack and Mary were eucharist ministers at St. Mary's Church in Bath for 13 years, and he joined the church choir for 23 years, joining Mary who was a 33 year choir member. Jack was also a 68 year member of the Knights of Columbus. Services are incomplete at this time.
